LOWELL, Fla. (AP) - Two Florida prison guards are charged with battery after investigators say a female inmate was purposely dropped face-first onto the floor, knocking out three teeth.

The Gainesville Sun reports that Lowell Correctional Institution Officers Adrian Puckett and Kurtis Mitchell were arrested Tuesday on aggravated battery charges. Puckett is also charged with falsifying records.

Investigators say Mitchell told Puckett and another officer on Jan. 26 that the inmate had disrespected a captain and “needs to fall.” They say Mitchell handcuffed and gave her to Puckett, who kicked her legs out and pushed her face first onto the concrete.

The report filed and approved by Puckett said the woman had been physically resisting him.
