KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - Court records say a fatal shooting in Coram followed an argument about methamphetamine.

The Daily Inter Lake reports authorities responded Thursday to a report of a shooting.

Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino says a subsequent homicide investigation discovered at least two portable meth labs, including one in the victim’s home.

The victim, 54-year-old William Gene Melton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers were provided a description of a suspect who had fled and his vehicle.

Martin Jay Chandler has been charged with felony deliberate homicide and felony use of a firearm. The 19-year-old remains in the custody of the Flathead County Jail on a bond of $250,000.

It is unclear if Chandler has hired an attorney.

Authorities say Melton and Chandler were believed to be acquaintances.
