MACON, Ga. (AP) - Two people helping a stranded ambulance driver have been killed in a crash.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones tells the Macon Telegraph that 22-year-old Shemar Brooks and 21-year-old Zhaniesha Burnette were killed in the Tuesday evening crash.

Jones says they were traveling in a Toyota Prius. Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Chad Harrison says Brooks and Burnette had pulled off of Interstate 16 to deliver diesel fuel to a friend in the ambulance. They poured fuel into the tank, got into their vehicles and were struck from behind by the tractor-trailer.

Harrison says the Prius hit the back of the ambulance and wound up under the truck. He says the truck burned after the impact.

The newspaper says no information was immediately available about other injuries. The crash is being investigated.
