ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 43-year-old St. Louis man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years after agreeing to a plea deal in the deaths of an elementary school principal and one of her friends, crimes that police say were spurred by jealousy.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Maurice D. Hoskins pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree and other charges in the 2016 killings. The plea deal was announced the same day jury selection was scheduled to begin. Hoskins was originally charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Hoskins fatally shot 38-year-old Jacara Sproaps and Maurice Partlow, and critically wounded Sproaps’ 18-year-old son. He also fired at police, with one shot grazing an officer, who was not badly hurt.
