TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A northeast Mississippi man is pleading guilty to killing his wife.
James R. Sharp pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Monday in the 2017 death of 23-year-old Carol Sharp.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports her gunshot wound was originally reported as self-inflicted, but police concluded her husband shot her. Carol Sharp died in a hospital about nine hours after police were called. Police said the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Lee County District Attorney John Weddle says that the state agreed to a plea bargain for John Sharp to spend 25 years in prison. He had been indicted for first-degree murder before the plea.
Sharp had been free on bail was jailed after the plea to await transport to state prison.
