PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gamblers placed about $19 million in wagers on the Super Bowl and other professional sports in January in Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Lottery on Thursday released figures for bets placed at Twin River Casino in Lincoln and Tiverton.

The casinos paid $18.9 million on winning bets, leaving $160,000 in revenue. The state gets 51 percent, after expenses are subtracted.

The state previously said gamblers legally bet almost $6.5 million on the Super Bowl in Rhode Island.

Many football fans bet on the victorious New England Patriots and the sportsbook lost $2.35 million when it paid the winning bets.

Since the late November launch of sports betting, gamblers have placed a total of $32.8 million in wagers, with $31.6 million paid on winning bets. That leaves $1.2 million in revenue.
