VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Volunteers in a county by the Mississippi River say they found no homeless people during an annual counting period.
Betty James is director of Mountain of Faith in Warren County. She tells the Vicksburg Post that volunteers went out Tuesday looking for the homeless, as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
James says she doesn’t know how much the cold weather affected this year’s counting effort.
The federal agency has local people around the nation doing a sort of census of the homeless at certain times of the year. The head count determines how much money local communities will receive for programs to help those with no place to live.
The county found 175 homeless people in Warren County in 2017 and 46 in 2018.
