DENVER (AP) - A Denver man has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for shooting his wife to death after a birthday party at their home.
The Denver Post reported Monday that 45-year-old Cain Wilkens was sentenced for the Jan. 21, 2018, death of 30-year-old Clarissa Wilkens. A jury convicted him in November of second-degree murder.
Cain Wilkens claimed his wife killed herself, but a witness who lives above the couple told investigators he heard a woman repeatedly screaming “no” before the shooting.

Detectives also found signs of a scuffle, and the man could not explain how the gun ended up in a closed safe.
