CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia hospital system has been awarded $1 million to expand substance abuse residential treatment services in a five-county area.
The state Department of Health and Human Resources announced the funding Thursday for Thomas Health, which operates Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston and St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.
The services would serve Clay, Fayette, Kanawha, Nicholas and Roane counties.
The Legislature mandated that DHHR identify and allocate additional treatment beds in regions across the state for people suffering from substance abuse. The funding is part of a comprehensive statewide plan to combat the opioid epidemic.
