SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Police say a man killed in Springfield this week was shot in the doorway of a home with a “significant” marijuana growing operation inside.

Springfield police say 38-year-old Timothy Redmond was shot at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the city’s Liberty Heights neighborhood.

Redmond appears to have been shot multiple times. A dog was also found deceased at the scene.

No arrests have been announced.

City officials say there was a sophisticated marijuana growing operation in the home’s basement.

Under Massachusetts law, it is legal to possess and grow marijuana, but only in limited amounts.

The homicide was the city’s second of 2019.
