Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will lead high-level trade talks in China next week for President Trump, who said negotiators won’t meet a March 1 deadline for reaching a deal.
The White House said Friday that Mr. Mnuchin will hold two days of talks, after lower-level negotiations in Beijing earlier in the week.
Mr. Trump said Thursday that he won’t meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping before the March 1 deadline, when U.S. tariffs are due to rise on $200 billion of Chinese goods.

Asked whether they would meet in the next month or so, Mr. Trump told reporters, “Not yet. Probably too soon.”
Worries over the U.S.-China trade war have affected U.S. financial markets.
