BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - Police say a 28-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed a woman and two dogs in northwest Washington state.

The Bellingham Herald reports Lynden police officers found a 52-year-old woman with stab wounds to her head, arm and hand after responding to a domestic abuse call at a house Saturday.

Lynden Police Chief John Billester says the man was found inside his bedroom and was taken into custody after a struggle.

The woman was taken to a hospital.

Billester says family members took the dogs to get medical care.

The Lynden man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, first-degree animal cruelty, malicious mischief and resisting arrest.

Billester says the man was possibly under the influence of drugs.
