POWNAL, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont town of Pownal is considering privatizing its trash transfer station and some residents are speaking out against the idea.

The Bennington Banner reports the Select Board has asked Town Administrator Michael Walker to look into how much privatization would cost, and if it would yield any savings. The station is now run by the town.

Walker says it’s budget time and board members are reviewing everything to see if the town can save money. No formal plan to privatize the transfer station is under consideration.

But Walker says he has received about a dozen letters from residents opposed to the idea of privatization.

Any decision on whether to privatize the transfer station will be made by the board.
