PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped charges against one of two men accused in the killing of his elderly former neighbor in Rhode Island.

A spokeswoman for state Attorney General Peter Neronha said Monday Tyler Grenon is no longer facing charges of murder and conspiracy for the death of Constance Gauthier.

The spokeswoman did not say why the charges were dropped. Grenon’s attorney previously said there was no physical evidence connecting his client to the crime.

Gauthier was found dead in her home in Woonsocket in 2016. Police say the 81-year-old was stabbed dozens of times.

Murder charges are still pending against Matthew Dusseault. Court records show an indictment was filed Thursday.

Investigators have not released a potential motive for the killing.
