PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Peoria police say an officer shot and wounded an armed suspect who was struggling with an employee inside an auto parts store.

Police say the suspect who was determined to be 17 years old was hospitalized for treatment of a shoulder wound.

According to police, the encounter Monday night began when a citizen called police to report seeing a masked man armed with a handgun run into the store and hold two employees at gunpoint.



Police say the shooting occurred when the first officer to arrive entered the store and saw the suspect struggling with the employee.
