PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A Republican mayor says he is running for a seat on the three-person Mississippi Public Service Commission.

The Mississippi Press reports that first-term Pascagoula Mayor Dane Maxwell announced his candidacy Wednesday. Maxwell says as a utility regulator, he would want to ensure customers’ complaints are handled “in a reasonable manner for the benefit of all involved.” He also says he would crack down on “pesky robo calls and telemarketers.”

The current southern district public service commissioner, Sam Britton of Laurel, has not announced his political plans for this year.
