BIGGERSVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Officials say an explosion that killed a northeast Mississippi woman in December was caused by a natural gas line.

The state fire marshal’s office tells news outlets the explosion that killed Cynthia Hughey on the night of Dec. 28, while destroying her mobile home, was accidental.

The cause is being described by fire investigators as an “an uncovered, open gas line.”

Hughey was found dead by firefighters after they were called because of the explosion. The Alcorn County woman had been employed in the cafeteria at a public school in Biggersville and was fondly remembered by many people as a hard worker and kind person.
