SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A western Massachusetts city is being sued by a woman who says she suffered permanent hearing loss in her right ear after a police captain fired a gun next to her head during a training exercise.
The Republican newspaper reports Christina Kalin, of Springfield, filed the lawsuit against Springfield and its police department on Thursday. She’s seeking $535,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
Kalin says she was injured during an active shooter drill at the Jewish Community Center in Springfield in February 2016. The lawsuit says Capt. Rupert Daniel fired a .38-caliber handgun near her head twice during the exercise.
