OLYMPIAN VILLAGE, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say an eastern Missouri sheriff’s deputy has shot a man in the leg after he said he didn’t want to go back to jail and charged officers with a knife.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the wounded man is in stable condition. The shooting happened Thursday at a gas station where deputies found two men who had been involved in a disturbance at a nearby home.
Sheriff Dave Marshak said in a tweet that law enforcement was familiar with the man who charged at them. The deputy fired at the man once. Marshak says a stun gun also was used.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital. The second man was arrested on outstanding warrants.
Officials say a knife was recovered from the scene.
