Kellyanne Conway said press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made an “unfortunate misstatement” when she said thousands of terrorists came illegally over the Southern Border.

“Everybody makes mistakes. All of us,” she told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham Monday night.

The White House came under fire when Mrs. Sanders said on Fox News that nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists came into the U.S. via the southern border. Reports surfaced Monday showing only 6 immigrants on the Terrorist Screening Database were found at the border.

Ms. Conway explained that the number Mrs. Sanders referred to was actually the total number of known or suspected terrorists entering the U.S. in FY 2017.

A Homeland Security fact sheet released Monday included the total number, which clarifies that a majority were going through airports.

It also noted that more than 3,000 “special interest aliens,” persons who could be a potential national security threat based on travel patterns, were encountered at the southern border.
