ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - The attorney for a Vermont man facing a murder charge that he hit another man with a pipe and set his home on fire says the case could be settled with a plea agreement.
The attorney for 31-year-old Allen Draper made the comments Monday during a status conference ahead of what could be a first degree murder trial.
Draper has pleaded not guilty to charges of first degree murder and other charges in the May 2018 death of Tim Persons in St. Johnsbury.
The Caledonian Record reports defense attorney Rob Sussman asked the judge Monday to delay a deadline for motions so that a change of plea hearing could be scheduled if they are able to reach an agreement. The judge agreed.
State’s Attorney Lisa Warren declined to comment.
