WASHINGTON (AP) — A Washington, D.C., man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an 11-year-old boy who was shot to death last week.

WTOP-FM reported that District police on Saturday arrested 29-year-old Tony Antoine McClam and charged him in the Thursday death of Karon Brown. Police responding that night to reports of gunfire found no victims at the scene, but they soon learned the wounded Karon was being taken to a nearby fire station. Karon later died.

Police say a preliminary investigation determined that Karon was sitting in a car when a shooting broke out between at least five people. Assistant police Chief Robert Contee says gunshots were then intentionally fired into the car carrying Karon, striking him.

Police didn’t immediately release a motive. The investigation is ongoing.
