GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Two Colorado police officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing for shooting a man who authorities say pointed a gun at them.
The Daily Sentinel reports 21st Judicial District Attorney Dan Rubinstein determined the Grand Junction officers were justified in shooting 29-year-old Spencer Shanley last month.
According to court documents, officers Chris Wood and Tom Nelson responded to reports that Shanley was suicidal and was pointing a gun at his head.
Authorities say the officers fired 14 times after Shanely approached and pointed the gun. He survived and is charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Rubinstein says in a statement Tuesday that the officers’ actions “fall squarely within the self-defense justification for use of deadly physical force.”
The officers have returned to work.
