MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A county prosecutor has been told to make sure future domestic violence cases are thoroughly reviewed in the wake of the killing of a Manchester woman.
Forty-five-year-old Jennifer Burpee was found beaten to death in her apartment Tuesday. Her boyfriend, 35-year-old Damien Seace, was charged with second degree murder.
WMUR-TV reports that Seace was accused of strangling and threatening to kill Burpee last October, but an assistant county attorney essentially dropped the charges after Burpee recanted. Attorney General Gordon MacDonald is now asking Hillsborough County Attorney Michael Conlon to review similar cases in the future before any charges are dropped.
Conlon said the volume of cases his office sees prohibits him from reviewing every one. He has 30 days to submit new procedures to the state.
