PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man who said he acted in self-defense when he stabbed a co-worker to death last year at Philadelphia International Airport has been acquitted of third-degree murder.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that court documents indicate that 36-year-old Kevin Emanuel was acquitted of murder and possession of an instrument of crime in the May 2018 death of 28-year-old Aaron Jenkins during a fight in a break room at Terminal E.
Authorities originally said Emanuel stabbed Jenkins in the leg with a key, piercing his femoral artery, but defense attorney Zak Goldstein said his client acknowledged using a small pocket knife.
District attorney’s office spokeswoman Jane Roh said officials respected but disagreed with the jury’s decision. She added that “homicide cases involving self-defense are among the most challenging to prosecute.”
