FENTON, Mo. (AP) - Two people are hospitalized after they were shot during a pre-dawn carjacking in suburban St. Louis.

St. Louis County police say the crime happened just before 4 a.m. at a service station in Fenton. Police spokesman Benjamin Granda says arriving officers found two victims shot behind the business. A man is hospitalized in critical condition and a woman is in stable condition.

Granda says the investigation shows that a suspect and the victims contacted each other, then went behind the business and shots rang out. One suspect left in the victims’ white Nissan. A second suspect in a separate car also fled.

The stolen Nissan was seen about 10 minutes later but the suspect was able to run into a park and get away.
