BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Barre officials have approved a nearly six-figure repair to the city’s indoor ice arena.
A component in the BOR arena’s refrigeration system that makes ice is broken.
The Times Argus reports that more than 80 people attended the city council meeting Monday night, including representatives of Spaulding High School’s hockey programs, Barre Youth Sports Association, and Barre Figure Skating Club.
One city councilor proposed that Barre Town share the costs, saying that many participants in the rink’s programs are from the town. But others said fixing the refrigeration system should not depend on the town’s contribution.
City Manager Steve Mackenzie stressed the need to quickly schedule and complete the repairs in order to avoid losing the upcoming season.
