RENO, Nev. (AP) - Reno police have arrested a 33-year-old suspect in a fatal shooting at an apartment east of downtown that apparently was sparked by an earlier dispute over drugs.
Juan Chavez was booked on suspicion of open murder with a deadly weapon in the July 5 death of Jordan Reynoso.
KOLO-TV reports Chavez was arrested July 8 on an unrelated charge but later linked to the killing through DNA evidence.
Police say Chavez and two other men fired shots into a woman’s Spokane Street apartment for payback after a shooting and drug deal the week before.
Reynoso was in the apartment below and came to check on the woman before he was shot and killed.
The woman was hospitalized with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to her shoulder.
It’s not clear if Chavez has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
