NEW YORK (AP) - An 18-year-old swimmer who went missing off New York City’s Rockaway Beach has been found dead.
Police say the teen was found at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on the rocks near Beach 61st Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police responded to a 911 call about two swimmers in distress at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. They rescued a 14-year-old boy but could not find the older teen until hours later.
The deceased swimmer’s name was not immediately released.
Swimming is not permitted at the beach after 6 p.m. when the lifeguards go off duty.
