SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for the fatal shooting of another man in a gun battle that started with the victim sitting on the other man’s car.

Prosecutors said 38-year-old Marcus Fernanders pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on Monday.

Witnesses and video from a nightclub parking lot in Spartanburg showed Fernanders confront and shove 36-year-old Tyrone Brown after finding him sitting on his car in June 2018.

Prosecutors said in a statement the two men went separate ways, but Fernanders turned and confronted Brown again, this time with a gun.

The two fired at each other. Brown was killed, while Fernanders was shot in the face and survived.

Prosecutors say Fernanders had several prior drug and weapon convictions.
