BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The former warden of a Louisiana state prison has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for wire fraud.
The Advocate reports Nate Cain was sentenced Monday to 38 months behind bars. He faced 18 charges but pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud.
Cain was warden of Avoyelles Correctional Facility, now Raymond Laborde Correctional Center. Prosecutors say he and his ex-wife Tonia Bandy spent more than $150,000 of prison funds on personal expenses. Bandy was the prison’s business manager.
Bandy also faced 18 charges but pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud before the trial. She was sentenced to eight months in prison.
Judge Dee Drell also ordered Cain and Bandy to pay more than $42,000 in restitution to the state.
