LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have shot and wounded two men during a stolen truck chase that turned into a gun battle.
Authorities say it happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Long Beach.
The Sheriff’s Department says deputies got word of a stolen pickup truck in the neighboring city of Carson and a chase began when they tried to pull it over.
The five-minute chases ended when the truck veered across a grassy space to avoid a spike strip, jumped a curb and hit a block wall.
Authorities say a passenger got out and began shooting at deputies, who returned fire, hitting him and the driver.
Both men, who are in their 20s, were taken to the hospital. There’s no immediate word on their conditions.
No deputies were hit.
