WASHOUGAL, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a woman was stabbed multiple times by a man in an apartment in Washougal, Washington.

Washougal police said the incident unfolded about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

KOIN reports that the man called 911 and said he was armed with butcher knives and holding a woman hostage.



The officers forced their way into the apartment and heard a woman screaming as they climbed two flights of stairs.

The man was located inside the apartment and taken into custody without incident. The woman, who has not been identified, had multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

Police say the 56-year-old man was booked into jail on an assault charge.
