SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Police in the Phoenix suburb of Surprise say a suspect is in custody in a double homicide case.
They say 23-year-old Chasten Fairris of El Mirage has been booked into jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder.
Officers responded to a residential area around 4 a.m. Thursday and found one man dead in the street and the other dead inside a vehicle.
Police have identified the victims as 26-year-old Joseph Hutchinson of Surprise and 29-year-old Robert De La Isla of El Mirage.
They say Fairris was found with a gunshot wound to an arm and taken to a hospital for treatment before being arrested.
Investigators say Fairris and Hutchinson allegedly planned to rob De La Isla.
It’s unclear how the plan unraveled and led to the fatal shootings.
