BELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) - Police in Bellevue have identified a man shot in a confrontation with police, as well as the officer who shot him.

Television station KETV reports that 33-year-old Matthew Smith died after being show by Bellevue Officer Cody Albrecht late Thursday night. Albrecht, who has served on the force for more than three years, is on paid administrative leave per department policy in police-involved shootings.

Police say the shooting happened after officers were sent around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to a home where a woman reported her boyfriend was drunk, armed and suicidal. Police say the officers heard shots near the home as they arrived. Once officer helped the woman flee the home. Moments later, Albrecht fired his gun, hitting Smith. Smith died at an Omaha hospital.



La Vista Police are investigating.
