JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man has been accused by sheriff’s deputies in a stabbing death which investigators say stemmed from a domestic dispute.
News sources report the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Derrick Lamell Bennett of Hubert is charged with an open count of murder in the death of 31-year-old Christy Godette on Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office says the incident occurred during an argument, but the reason for the argument wasn’t clear.
According to investigators, Godette was Bennett’s sister-in-law, and they added that her three children were inside the home at the time of the incident.
During a court appearance on Wednesday, an attorney was assigned to Bennett, who is jailed without bond. Attorney Stuart Popkin couldn’t be reached for comment.
