CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen says she welcomes continued funding levels for opioid treatment in President Donald Trump’s budget proposal, but she is concerned about cuts to programs that help law enforcement and community groups to combat the epidemic.
Shaheen and the other members of the congressional delegation wrote a letter to Trump last week urging him to prioritize funding for State Opioid Response grants in his annual budget proposal to Congress. The budget proposes maintaining the grants at $1.5 billion.
But the budget also proposes cutting nearly $100 million from opioid-specific grant programs for law enforcement and community groups.
