WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A former postal worker from Massachusetts has pleaded guilty to stealing credit and gift cards intended for customers along her route and using the money to fuel her drug habit.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that 37-year-old Stephanie Lacroix pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to mail theft by a postal employee.

Prosecutors say the Fitchburg woman opened envelopes that contained greeting cards in the hopes of finding gift cards, and also stole and activated credit cards from mail intended for residents of Harvard.

She was also caught on a hidden camera smoking from a pipe in her mail truck, although she did not face drug charges.

Prosecutors say she stole $37,000, although Lacroix disputed that in court. She faces up to five years in prison at sentencing in July.
