SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Scottsdale fire officials say rain this week is likely to add to the risk of fire this summer.

The Scottsdale Fire Department issued a warning Tuesday for residents whose homes are near or situated in land prone to wildland fires.

They say recent rains will increase the chances of more dry fuel once temperatures rise in the summer months.

They say homeowners in these areas should take protective measures such as removing dead branches or leaves near structures. Other steps include keeping eaves and gutters clear of leaves and any combustible debris.

It is also advisable to create a safety zone around a home by eliminating flash fuels and thinning overgrown vegetation.
