COTTONWOOD, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder after a female neighbor was assaulted in Cottonwood.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say 49-year-old John Scrivner also is facing charges of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

He remains jailed on a $150,000 bond.

Sheriff’s officials say deputies responded to a report of a fight Sunday night.

They say Scrivner allegedly attacked his 59-year-old girlfriend and choked her.

She broke free and ran to a neighbor’s home for help.

Authorities say a 50-year-old neighbor heard the commotion and tried to call 911. But Scrivner came up behind her and reportedly put a metal bar across her chest to lift her off the ground.

Deputies scuffled with Scrivner and stopped the attack before taking him into custody.
