GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man has died in a shooting that followed a family argument.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said in a news release that 41-year-old William Scott Putnam of Gaffney died around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the scene of the shooting.

Fowler said investigators think Putnam was shot during a family dispute at a residence near his home.

An autopsy is planned Friday.

Sheriff Steve Mueller says the shooting remains under investigation. No arrest had been made as of Thursday morning. But Mueller said there is no threat to the community.
