MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - The mother of a 7-year-old New Hampshire boy who accidentally shot himself in the leg has pleaded guilty to related charges.

Prosecutors in Manchester say it was difficult to figure out a fair sentence for Jennifer Puglisi, noting that she took her son to the hospital after he shot himself in the leg. WMUR-TV reports prosecutors say Puglisi called her fiancé and tried to treat the wound herself before seeking professional medical treatment.

The child has since recovered.

Authorities say the gun was left in an unlocked drawer. Puglisi’s defense attorney says she has learned her lesson.

She was sentenced to one year in jail, but the sentence has been suspended as long as Puglisi follows certain conditions.

Her fiancé is due in court next month on similar charges.
