Oregon man gets 31-year sentence for sexually abusing child

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon man was sentenced to 31 years in prison for sexually abusing a child.

KPTV-TV reports 42-year-old Leo Gabonia was sentenced Tuesday after he was convicted last week on eight abuse-related charges, including first-degree sex abuse.

Washington County prosecutors say the 9-year-old victim reported the abuse to a family member, leading Forest Grove police to investigate Gabonia in September 2017.

Police say the abuse started two years earlier.

Investigators say the family knew Gabonia, and he took advantage of that connection to access the victim.
