GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man faces charges in the death of his stepfather.
The Greenville News reports the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Richard Scott Hinds, of Greenville, has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with the early Thursday death of 61-year-old Roger Bruce Pauls.
The Coroner’s Office says Pauls died following an altercation with Hinds. An arrest warrant says Hinds put Pauls in a chokehold, causing Pauls’ airway to become restricted and ultimately causing his death.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine an exact cause of death.
Hinds is being held at the Pickens County Detention Center. It’s unknown if he has an attorney.
