2nd judge: man accused in 3 killings competent for trial

CLINTON, La. (AP) - A second Louisiana judge has ruled that a man accused in three killings and a non-fatal shooting is competent for trial.

WAFB-TV reports the ruling in East Feliciana Parish, where Ryan Sharpe faces two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

The third killing was just inside East Baton Rouge Parish, where a judge ruled March 14 that Sharpe can now help his defense.

WAFB reports that Sharpe has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to first-degree murder in the death of Brad DeFrancesci, second-degree murder in that of Tommy Bass, and attempted first-degree murder of Buck Hornsby.

In Baton Rouge, he pleaded not guilty and not guilty because of insanity to second-degree murder Carroll Breeden’s death.

The four shootings occurred from July 8 to Oct. 9, 2017.
