The Baltimore Orioles had one of the historically bad seasons in Major League Baseball history in 2018, and they made very few (if any) steps to improve this year.
That hasn’t stopped some folks, whether optimistic Orioles fans or regular risk-takers, from betting on Baltimore to win the 2019 World Series.
The Orioles were a 2,000-to-1 longshot to win the World Series per Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, yet fans around the country are placing wagers on it to happen, ESPN reported.
A vice president of Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in West Virginia told ESPN he saw 39 bets on the Orioles winning the title, “in amounts ranging from $2 to $50.”
Stranger things have happened. In the 2015-16 English Premier League season, Leicester City was given 5,000-to-1 odds of winning the league title. The squad went on to do just that, and some bettors won earnings around £250,000.
