SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) - An inmate at a Tennessee jail has filed a lawsuit saying a city employee intentionally hit him with a van to encourage him not to “lag behind.”
The Daily News Journal reports that Rutherford County Correctional Work Center inmate Taylor Ross Jacobs said in a handwritten complaint filed this month that he was hit by an employee of the Smyrna Streets Department on Feb. 28 as he picked up roadside litter.
Jacobs said he yelled for the van to stop, but it kept accelerating and he was hit by a mirror on the van and knocked into a ditch.
The extent of his injuries wasn’t clear, but he wasn’t hospitalized. He’s seeking $525,000.
Attorney Jeff Peach told the newspaper that the city hasn’t yet been served with the complaint.
