BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A fifth and final person charged in connection with a fatal assault at a Vermont homeless encampment in 2016 has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
WCAX-TV reports Jordan Paul was sentenced Thursday for his role in the death of 38-year-old Amos Beede and was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison for manslaughter. Paul accepted responsibility for his actions and blamed his upbringing.
Beede’s sister Ida McKinney says Paul’s hard life is no excuse for his crime. Beede’s family says they wanted life sentences, but understood the deals meant the process would not be prolonged.
Police say Beede was attacked as a result of a feud between two homeless camps in Burlington.
