HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) - Two MS-13 gang members - including a citizen of El Salvador - have been indicted in the death of a Long Island teenager who was mutilated, with his hands nearly severed.

Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini announced Friday that Elmer Gilberto Santos Contreras is being held without bail on a murder charge after pleading not guilty.

Contreras was returned Thursday from Virginia, where he awaited deportation.

Police say he ordered the murder of 18-year-old Estiven Abrego-Gomez after the teenager appeared on social media flashing signs linked to a rival gang.

He was found dead on Aug. 20, 2016 at a baseball park in Greenlawn, where he lived.

Also charged with murder is Anthony Gutierrez-Meza for allegedly acting in concert with Contreras. He is in police custody in Virginia.
