STOUGHTON, Mass. (AP) - About two dozen patients, some of whom are on life support, have been evacuated from a Massachusetts rehabilitation hospital after a pipe burst inside the building.
Police in Stoughton say officers and firefighters responded to Curahealth Stoughton just before 9 a.m. Sunday for reports of a burst pipe in the long-term acute care unit.
Police in a Facebook post say “Water began to pour into the unit at a rapid rate.”
Fire Chief Michael Laracy says of the 22 people evacuated, seven or eight were on ventilators.
He says there was fear of a power outage with water up to four inches deep in the building.
Ambulances from several surrounding communities responded to help medical staff move the patients to other hospitals.
A message was left at the hospital.
